Scheduling Questions
Choir periods are not concrete. Do not plan your schedule based on when courses meet this year. Sign up for classes that you want to take.
It is possible to be in both choir and band for all four years of high school. There are some things that you can do to make this happen. Specifically planning our your schedule for all four years, and taking advantage of dual enrollment (college) courses.
Foreign language classes will fit into your schedule. If you are having trouble scheduling as a freshman, plan to take these as a Junior/senior. Foreign language is not a graduation requirement. Many students prefer to take these classes because some Univeristies like to see them on transcripts. They do not prohibit you from getting accepted into most colleges. Many students take foreign language as a dual credit class (you can receive 2 free college classes per year in high school). Dual credit classes are taught by college professors, and give you credit for high school AND college. That means entering college with credits already completed- saving you money and time. Students can dual enroll in Spanish, German, French, and Sign Langauge. If you have questions about dual enrollement, contact Dr. Jennifer Warford at: jennifer.warford@boone.kyschools.us
You CAN be in choir and other electives. Consider staring choir as a freshman if you can. This will give you the most opportunities to pursue music as an upper classmen. If its not for you, you can always take another class the following year.
Many students sing for all four year. Some students only come to campus their senior year for choir and band.
